A Taste Of What We've Been Up To

Well, here it is, finally... Mill House Inn, the fabric I'm using to make my new quilt.

I'm lovin the colors...

And here's our temporary addition... the pitbull we rescued a couple weeks ago. She's looking SO much better now than she did then.

She's a big fan of belly rubs.

Her and Kia have become pretty good buddies.

And here is a pic of Sable with the love of his life (his blue leash). He takes it everywhere with him.
I don't want to say he's weird or anything, but....
We call him Weird Uncle Sable for a reason.

And I finally got my table runner back from the quilters, so I'm starting on the binding. Haven't had time to do much with it yet, but hopefully I'll have it finished this weekend at some point. You can kind of see what it looks like under Alice... she likes to make her bed on my newest projects.

She also now likes to make her bed on the clean towels in our closet.
Of course.

As for what Sable's been up to...
Well, he keeps pretty busy with plotting the death of our backyard birds. Maybe one day he'll even get close enough to touch one.
Who says miracles don't still occur??

Alice is going to get herself sewn to a quilt if she isn't careful...
She sees the needle on the sewing machine move and dives for it.
I can't believe she hasn't gotten stuck yet.
Scares the bejeebers out of me every time she does it, the little sneak...

Kia and Alice are slowly becoming friends... maybe.
Kia is just a little too rough with her still, so Alice isn't a huge fan. She won't go in the backyard if Kia's out there. I can't really blame her, poor thing. Last time she went out there, Kia stomped on her and scared the daylights out of her.

Well, that's what's been happening around our place lately. Mostly just the cats getting into things they shouldn't.
You know, the usual.

Catching Up

Where to start?

Well, to begin with, I haven't blogged in a while. Which you already know. But the reason I haven't blogged lately is because I've been either busy or exhausted. Usually both, due to school. I've been learning words like lingual frenum and temporomandibular joint. I've been learning to do mouth mirror inspections and chart amalgams...

But it's been fun.

Which is good, because I spend quite a few hours each day doing it.

Also, we found a stray pit bull up at the Christensens' place and Steve let me take her home and put some weight on her. We're not keeping her, just fostering her until we find her the perfect family. She's a sweetie though, and Kia is loving having a new friend.

I've been working on my pinwheel quilt off and on while trying to stay awake in the evenings, but I haven't made a whole lot of progress. I'm hoping this weekend I'll have a few hours to devote to it... if that happens I'll be sure to post pictures of what I get done. I'm using a Mill House Inn jellyroll by Fig Tree Quilts. Can't wait till it starts coming together!!

I also just got my table runner back from Natalie after having it quilted. Hurray!!! Lol!! I've been waiting and waiting for it... our kitchen table is so sad looking without any color. But not anymore! Well... as long as I can get the binding done this weekend. Otherwise, it might have to be sad-looking for another week or so. Lol...

Everyone on facebook keeps talking about school getting out and how they're almost done with finals. Gah!! It drives me crazy, cause I'm just getting started!! Lol... 6 more months to go... But this first month is flying by, so that's a good sign. Maybe the next 6 will go by just as fast.

It's finished!

Well, here it is... my first "real" quilt. I really wish I had a better camera, the one we have doesn't do a very good job with the colors... and the lighting is pretty horrible. Lol..

I taped the quilt up over the window for a cool effect. (And because my other pics of it were pretty boring. lol)
It turned out better than I expected, considering it was my first time and I just sort of made up my own pattern and templates. I really love the colors. ( I used an Essence jellyroll by Sandy Gervais.) I can't wait to see what it looks like once I have it quilted.

Sadly, I found Mill House Inn jellyrolls on clearance at fatquartershop.com and was forced to get a couple to start my next project. Hey, they were $14 cheaper (each!!) and I was afraid they wouldn't be available for much longer... I HAD to do it.
Okay, I'll stop trying to justify my actions.

I'm planning to make a larger quilt out of them for our someday-guestroom.
Hopefully I'll have time to work on it... school starts this week!!

I'll leave you with my Alice/Sable picture of the day.

~The Quilt~

Well, I am FINALLY almost finished with my quilt top. It's full of mistakes, but I like it anyway. It was my first time doing applique; it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be... lol...

I'm waiting to show the entire thing until I've finished the borders. Unfortunately, I ran out of brown thread so I'm waiting until tonight to get some since Steve and I are running into Springfield to pick up a Nintendo 64 that Steve found for me (woot!!!). I can't wait to see what it will look like once it's quilted. (The quilt, not the nintendo.)

I've also started a square table runner (can table runners be square?) with some of my leftover fabric. I think I have an addiction. I need a less expensive hobby. Like playing nintendo....

------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, since I can't sew I'm pretty bored. My house is clean, laundry is done, and my cats are taunting me.

According to them, it's Napping Friday.

Yawn.

School and Birthdays

Only 9 more days until I start classes!! I'm SO excited! I can't wait to find out what it's going to be like. I've gone to college for 2 years, but for some reason this seems different. Probably because there's so much hands-on training..?

----------------------------

So today was Steve's birthday. It's so weird to think he's already 23... but good weird. Lol..
He's such a sweetheart; he took me to the zoo on his birthday, of all days. I'm always joking that I want to go, and he absolutely despises the zoo and begs to go some other time. And then today, he totally surprised me and took me. And I almost got eaten by a giraffe. But it was a lot of fun. :-D

He's so goshdarn thoughtful.

I love him.

Oh, and I'm almost finished with my quilt top. Pictures are coming soon!

Just a few random updates

I just love the bunny Steve got me for Easter. It cracks me up every time I open the fridge and see it sitting there. She's already missing an ear.

--------------------------------

Steve and I finally got around to expanding the little flower bed in the front yard this week. It still looks pathetic in the pics, but once everything starts growing it will look SO much better. (Or so I hope..)
I planted snapdragons along the front, which is the only color right now, and we also planted two rose bushes, ground cover, and cosmos for the back border. I'm really hoping my hibiscus survived the winter and decides to put in an appearance soon.

-----------------------------------
The cats have been insane this entire week. I swear, it's like having a couple of toddlers running around underfoot. They discovered the bathtub...

Alice tried out the bike...

And took an occasional nap...

Sometimes with Sable...

But she always woke up and turned back into a little monster. I don't know what Sable's been teaching her, but it's not helping.

----------------------------
On a totally different note, school is starting for me this month, and I'm stoked!! Orientation is 2 weeks from now and I'm starting to wish I was already started. But then again, I only have 2 weeks of freedom left, so I'd better enjoy it while I can. I am NOT looking forward to getting up 2 hours earlier each morning.
I was also hoping to have my quilt finished by the time I started classes, but with all the wonderful weather I've been slacking off on it. Maybe I'll sit down and tackle it tomorrow, since it's supposed to be rainy all day.
Maybe.

I love Lowes!!

So.... I know the hummingbirds won't show up till next month... BUT..... Steve got me the prettiest hummingbird feeder and I just couldn't wait until then to put it up. :-D

I love, love, love it.
But mostly I love the man who got it for me. :-)

And then today I couldn't resist walking around the gardening center at Lowes "just to browse". Yeah, right.
I found 9 snapdragons, 1 rosebush, a bag of topsoil, peas, green beans, squash, and allysum seeds all for $18. 61... not too bad.
Now if I could just get rid of this migraine, I might actually get some stuff planted this evening. Maybe coffee will help... hmm....

Luckily, I have a little helper to assist me with the gardening. If she can squeeze me in between naps, that is. :-)
